Olyn G Buser

Olyn G. Buser, 90, of Palestine, IL, formerly of Dothan, AL, died at 10:25 p.m. (E.S.T.) Sunday, June 26, 2011 at the Bridge Point Nursing Home, Vincennes, IN. He was born September 22, 1920 in Palestine, IL, the son of John H. Buser and Effie Shaw Buser. He retired from the U. S. Navy after 20 years of service and was a Chief Petty Officer at Pearl Harbor during the invasion. He retired from the U. S. Post Office after 15 years of service. He was a member of the Elks Lodge of Dothan, AL, and the Presbyterian Church, Dothan, AL. Olyn was a Boy Scout leader for many years in Dothan and received the Silver Beaver Award for his efforts. He was an avid woodcarver and woodworker.Olyn married Helen Williams and she preceded him in death in 1971. He then married Bessie Bedsole and she preceded him in death in 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ward Buser; and his sister, Vera Bonson.Olyn is survived by his son, Steve Buser, Platteville, WI; his brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Leah Buser, Palestine; his aunt, Lorene Westfall, Vincennes, IN; several nieces and nephews, cousins, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren; 2 step sons, Larry Childress, Headland, AL and Kenneth Childress, Camden, TN.Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, July 1st at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Palestine Funeral Services will follow at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Jane Drake officiating. Memorials may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church, Palestine. Funeral services will be held in Dothan, AL at the Byrd Funeral Home, 3409 W. Main St., Dothan AL 36305 on Wednesday July 6th at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will precede the service from 9:00 to 10:00 and burial will follow in the Dothan Memory Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dothan Boy Scout Troop or to the Dothan First Presbyterian Church.
