Norman H. Tingley, 71, of West York, IL, died August 5, 2020, at his home in West York. He was born July 16, 1949, in Robinson, IL, the son of Maurice “Baldy” Tingley & Veronica Decker Tingley, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Debra (Pettigrew) on October 7, 1995, and she preceded him in death November 16, 2000. He is survived by his daughters, Marnie & Brent Wingler (Marshall, IL), Traci & Charles Moore (Robinson, IL), Jennifer & Travis Cox (West Union, IL); by his sons, Adam Tingley and Andrew Tingley; by 12 grandchildren; by his brother & sister-in-law, Tom & Cathy Tingley (West York, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Norm grew up in the West York area and was a 1968 graduate of Hutsonville High School. He went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Navy from 1968-1972. Back home, he found work with Velsicol in Marshall for a time before getting his CDL. The next several years found him on the road, driving a truck for a number of local companies before retiring from Hydrite Chemical in 2015. Time away from work often found Norm outdoors, be that fishing or in his garden. By all accounts, the man had a green thumb, further evidenced by the abundant produce he put out yearly! He put his produce to good use in his kitchen, where he showed great prowess. Anyone who knew him could attest to his love of western culture. In particular, Gunsmoke and John Wayne movies provided him with countless hours of entertainment. Though he enjoyed the camaraderie found at organizations such as the Hutsonville American Legion Post #742 and York Lodge #313, he loved his family more than anything, and was especially fond of his grandkids. They will remember Norm as a stubborn-but-humorous soul who wasn’t afraid to speak his mind. He never met a stranger, and will be missed by his many, many friends and family. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11th at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union, IL. PLEASE NOTE THAT COVID-19 GUIDELINES WILL BE OBSERVED.
