Norma (Finkbiner) Miller

December 31, 1921 — August 29, 2019

Norma (Finkbiner) Miller, 97, of Paris, IL, formerly of Hutsonville, IL, died on August 29, 2019, at Paris Healthcare Center in Paris. She was born on December 31, 1921, in Hutsonville, IL, the daughter of Harry Finkbiner & Freda (Schafer) Finkbiner, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son, William Miller; by her grandson, Brian Spicer; by her sons-in-law, Roy Johnston and Theo York; by her grandson-in-law, George Harvey; by her siblings, Eva Bolding, William Finkbiner, Jane Plunkett, Frank Finkbiner, Fredrick Finkbiner; and by her niece, Ginger Battershell. She is survived by her daughters, JoAnne Johnston, Janet (Jeff) Poynter, and Joyce York; by her daughter-in-law, Rebecca Miller; by her grandchildren, Michelle Lawhorn, Becki Johnston, Stephanie Harvey, Bradley (Erika) Spicer, Jared (Kara) Poynter, Jay (Aimee) Miller, and Greg (Cheyenne) Miller; by her great-grandchildren, Heather Lawhorn, Madeline Lawhorn, Syndi Harvey, Sophia Harvey, Sylvia Harvey, Westin Poynter, Faith Poynter, Jaythen Spicer, Grayson Spicer, and Logan Wissel; as well as several nieces and nephews. Norma grew up in Hutsonville and was a 1940 graduate of Hutsonville Township High School. She furthered her education at Eastern Illinois State Teacher's College, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1944. She put her newfound knowledge to work at Indianola High School, where she taught for a few years before she started having children. From there on out, her life was dedicated to caring for her home and family. When she wasn't busying herself with housework or yardwork, she could often be found with a latch hook or needle in her hand. A creative soul, she fabricated countless creations for her friends and family over the course of her life. It was evident that her heart belonged to her family, especially her grandchildren, as they were each the apple of her eye. It is no secret that Norma had a penchant for babies and children, and they all seemed drawn to her as well; and why wouldn't they be? Norma Miller was as sweet as the chocolates and Pepsis she was known to enjoy. Norma was raised in the Methodist Church, and from an early age, she put her trust and hope in Christ as her Savior. We are overjoyed that today, she is experiencing the fullness of our Lord alongside all those who have gone before in faith. Norma's family would like to thank the nurses and the staff at Paris Healthcare Center. Your loving kindness and the wonderful physical care you compassionately gave her over the last 8 years was a blessing, not only to her, but to us as well. We couldn't begin to express our gratitude. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7th at the Zion Cemetery, rural Marshall, IL, with her nephew, Doug Finkbiner officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to "Paris Health Care Center", or to the charity of your choice, with envelopes available at the cemetery. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine, IL is in charge of arrangements.
