Nina (Garrard) Drummond

Nina Ruth (Garrard) Drummond, 93, of Robinson, IL, died at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at the Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson after several months of deteriorating health. She was born February 15, 1926 in Crawford County near Palestine, IL to Eldon and Mary (Reynolds) Garrard. She grew up in the vicinity where she attended local schools, helped care for her younger siblings, and worked as a telephone operator. She married James L. Drummond in Robinson on July 21, 1947, and he preceded her in death on November 22, 1979. They spent their married lives farming in Crawford County northwest of Robinson. She was a homemaker and farm helper. She enjoyed home extension, refinishing furniture, crocheting, embroidery, and word searches. She was a faithful member of the Prairie Methodist Church and later the Christian Church of Porterville. Surviving are her two daughters, Mrs. Marsha (Roger) Smith of Bryan, TX, and Mrs. Rita (Mike) Rich of Robinson; her son, Larry Drummond of rural Flat Rock; her grandchildren, R. Lee (Melissa) Smith of Brenham, TX and Mrs. Kelly (Brandon) Kitts of Robinson; her great-grandchildren, Brier Kitts, Johnavan Rich, and Gabriella Smith; her sisters, Mrs. Marilyn Manhart of Trimble, Genelle Weger of Arizona, and Mrs. Eldona Snyder of Palestine; her brother, Randy Garrard of rural Palestine; as well as several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death were her parents; her sisters, Mrs. Mildred McDaniel, Mrs. Mary Lou Hargis and Carol in infancy; her infant brothers, Roy and Donald; her grandson, James Douglas "JD" Rich; and her infant great-grandson, Justin Rich. The family would like to thank the staff members of Timber Creek Village and the Magnolia Center for their dedicated care. A time of visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Services will immediately follow at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating. During the service, family and friends will have the opportunity to share in remembering this special woman’s life. Private interment services will be held at the Prairie Cemetery, rural Oblong, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Riley Hospital for Children, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
