Monica Steele

Monica Steele, 81 of Robinson, IL, died at 1:40 p.m. (e.s.t.) Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. She was born October 5, 1927 in Bridgeport, IL, the daughter of Jessie Gillespie and Agnes Jennings Gillespie. She had retired in 1987 from the Illinois Department of Human Resources office in Robinson after over 10 years of service. She was a member of Quail Creek Country Club, and a member of the Women’s Golf League. She was an avid reader and belonged to several bridge clubs. Monica married David Steele August 21, 1948 and he survives. She is also survived by her two daughters and their spouses, Julie and Mike Weger, Visalia, CA and Jan and Rick Silloway, Chippewa Falls, WI; her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Sandy Steele, Greenville, NC; 4 grandchildren, Matt Weger, Visalia, CA, Derek and his wife Ceri Steele, Chapel Hill NC, Drew Steele, Greenville, NC, and Taylor Silloway, Chippewa Falls, WI; her sister Lois Litherland, Robinson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3sisters, Mary Elizabeth Gillespie, Addelle Hipshir, Alyene Gray; and 3 brothers, Jessie Jr, Walt, and jack Gillespie.A “Celebration of Life Service” will be held at the Quail Creek Country Club Thursday, September 3rd from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a celebration service of her life at 4:30 with Rev. Louis Youngs as officiant. Everyone wishing to attend is welcome and encouraged to participate and share memories.The family asks that memorials may be made to the Robinson Township Library or to the Crawford County Humane Society with envelopes at the service or mailed to the Goodwine Funeral Home, 303 E. Main St., Robinson, IL 62454 made to the organization of choice.
