Milburn "Leon" Parker, a man who brought joy and laughter into the lives of those around him for 83 wonderful years, passed away on July 1, 2024, at Casey Health Care Center in Casey, IL. Born on November 5, 1940, in Dawson Springs, KY, his youth was spent among the landscape of the rural Flat Rock area. On February 7, 1970, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth "Jenny" Harris, building a life filled with joy and companionship until she preceded him in death on April 9, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his parents, James B. & Ora (Dunning) Parker; his brother, Norris Parker; and his sisters, Maxine Boyd, Mary McGahey, and Judie McCarter.
His spirit lives on through his beloved daughters, Samantha Parker of Palestine, IL, Lisa McCormick (and her family) of Indianapolis, IN, and Debbie Evert (and her family) of Colorado. He is also remembered by his sisters, Betty Mills of Palestine, IL, and Janet Brown of Texas. Leon was a cherished uncle to several nieces and nephews, who will hold fond memories of their time with him.
A man of the road, Leon spent over 40 years behind the wheel as a truck driver. His passion for driving was not just a career but a calling, as he found joy in the journey and the people he met along the way. Even after retiring from trucking, he continued to serve his community by assisting the Amish with transportation and by selling produce. Always keeping active, he also lent a helping hand to neighbors by mowing their yards.
A people person through and through, Leon never missed an opportunity to share a laugh or a joke. He was the kind of man who could light up a room with his humor. Friends, family, and strangers alike were drawn to his friendly demeanor and will forever miss his one-of-a-kind charm. Leon Parker's story is a testament to the impact one person can have on the world around them simply by being themselves and sharing joy with others.
