Micheal Dean Wesley

November 28, 1944 — September 8, 2023

Micheal Dean Wesley of Flat Rock, IL, passed away on September 8, 2023, at Willow Manor in Vincennes, IN. Born November 28, 1944, in Honey Creek Township, Mike spent his formative years exploring and growing up in Flat Rock and eventually graduated from Robinson High School.

After working at the Ettelbrick Shoe Factory for a time, Mike spent 33 years ensuring the grounds and facilities of Lincoln Grade School were well-maintained. Known for his ornery side, he often injected humor into his role and is fondly remembered for his occasional harmless pranks on the students. He was also a committed volunteer fireman for the Flat Rock Fire Department for over 25 years, demonstrating his dedication to the community. He was just as committed to his beloved St. Louis Cardinals as he epitomized the meaning of a true fan. Despite his few but cherished visits to the Busch Stadium, he insisted he could enjoy the game just as well from home, meticulously recording every statistic of his beloved Redbirds. His love for sports also extended to his active participation, from his younger years playing fast-pitch softball to umpiring for his grandchildren's games.

Beyond the grandstands and the baseball diamond, Mike found solace in the tranquility of nature, passing the twilight years of his life fishing in little ponds, notably Ryan's. Hunting was another outdoor pursuit he enjoyed, primarily hunting quail and a little bit of everything. He also had an uncanny knack for mushroom hunting, picking them by the hundreds, and as was his nature, keeping track of his finds.

Though he was a quiet man by nature, Mike always preferred the company of his family and often found himself at his children's houses. His bond with each family member was evident, but he was especially close with his grandchildren, who never wanted for anything when he was around! As we take a step back and look at the fullness of Mike's 78 years with us, it's hard not to see a robust picture of steadfastness, honesty, and, of course, a stubborn streak that made him all the more endearing to those who loved him. His absence will be deeply felt because he was deeply treasured. Thanks for the memories, Mike.

He is survived by his children & their spouses, Kevin & Cristel Wesley, Ryan & Ashli Wesley, and Carrie & John Rodich; by his grandchildren, Cristen, Taylor, Shania, Hannah, Austin, Addison, Addilyn, Colsyn, and Eastyn; by one great-granddaughter, Charlie; and by several nieces and nephews. He married Carolyn Sue "Susie" Taylor on April 28, 1968, and she preceded him in death on September 4, 1993. He was also preceded in death by parents, Fred Wesley & Elsie Jo (Rich) Wesley; by his siblings, John F., Steve, and Carol Ann Wesley; and by his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Hank & Laura Mae Taylor.
