Michael Dale Garner

Michael Dale Garner, 53, of West York, IL, died June 29, 2020, at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, IL. He was born March 19, 1967, in Terre Haute, IN, the son of Marion Dale Garner & Dorothy Ellen (Hoopingarner) Garner. He grew up in the Marshall area and was a 1985 graduate of Marshall High School. He would go on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Air Force, and it was while serving in England that he met Mary McGray. They married on December 4, 1989, and this union brought two sons and a daughter into this world: James Garner (significant other – Lanie Veach), Philip Garner (wife – Emilee) and Alyssa Garner, all of whom survive. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Chloe, Dwaine, Norah, Addyson, and Everly; by his mother, Dorothy Ellen Garner; by his mother-in-law, Carole McGray; by his brother-in-law, John McGray (wife – Sara); by his sisters-in-law, Kathy Johnson (husband – David), and Nancy McGray; as well as a nephew, two nieces, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Marion Dale Garner; and by his father-in-law, Donald McGray. Though he worked odd jobs for a number of local businesses, (including a 13-year stint with Simonton Windows in Paris), Mike’s kind-heartedness eventually led him to become a CNA. He was a familiar face to the residents of Burnsides Community Health Center in Marshall and the veterans who found a home at the Heritage in Hutsonville, IL. Away from work, he found great joy experiencing the outdoors, and was especially fond of the special kind of peace that comes with a fishing pole in-hand. Time at home found him watching thrillers and horror flicks; that is, of course, when he wasn’t enjoying an episode of Star Trek! Though all these things brought Mike a sense of enjoyment, nothing meant more to him than spending time with his family. Sunday evenings were near-sacred to him, as they provided him with the opportunity to share a meal and to play cards with those he loved the most in this world. As hilariously funny as the man was, it was obvious that he took the roles of son, husband, father, and “paw-paw” seriously. A longtime member of the Zion United Methodist Church in Marshall, another title he held with pride was “follower of Jesus”. We have the assurance that the faith with which he lived his life has been made sight. A time of visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 6th at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union, IL. PLEASE NOTE THAT COVID-19 GUIDELINES WILL BE OBSERVED. SOCIAL DISTANCING MEASURES WILL BE IN FORCE, AND THE FAMILY IS REQUIRING THAT ALL ATTENDEES WEAR FACE COVERINGS. A private family service will be held the next day at the funeral home with Pastor John Cross officiating. The public may take part by viewing the livestream of his service at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7th. Memorial contributions may be made to the “Zion United Methodist Church”, to “Shriners Hospitals for Children”, or to the “Ronald McDonald House”. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
