Mervin Dewight Lemeron, 83, of Flat Rock, IL, died at 12:57 p.m. on Thursday May 31, 2018 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 2, 1934 in Honey Creek Township, the son of Charles Henry Lemeron & Bertha Mae (Shidler) Lemeron, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brothers & sisters-in-law, Lonnie Lemeron (in infancy), Jerald & Frances Lemeron, Everett & Gladys Lemeron, Hubert & Doris Lemeron, and Phillip & Alma Lemeron; by his sister & brother-in-law, Lela & Herman Sechrest; by his brothers-in-law, Bob Wooten and Don Bradberry; and by his grandsons, Michael Lemeron and Matt Lemeron. Mervin married Ella Lucille Decker on September 1, 1956, and they were married for 61 years before his passing. He is also survived by his children, Jerry & Jeanie Lemeron (Flat Rock, IL), Wanda & Randy Jones (Olney, IL), Nedra & Doug Guyer (Annapolis, IL), and Emily & Kevin Wilber (Flat Rock, IL); by his six grandchildren, Cory & Terri Lynne Lemeron, Paige & David Abell, Danielle Ireland, Timothy Erton, Kendra & Tyler Potter, and Sydney & Taylor Pinkston; by ten great-grandchildren, Victoriagiselle Lemeron, Corbin Lemeron, Koriann Lemeron, Claire Abell, Jack Abell, Taytym Pinkston, and Elyana Pinkston, as well baby Potter on the way; by his step-grandchildren, Kielana, Nalani, and Beau; by his brother & sister-in-law, Richard & Francis Lemeron (Birds, IL); by his sister, Jane Bradberry (Flat Rock, IL); by his sister-in-law, Carolyn Wooten (Flat Rock, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Mervin proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959 and continued serving from 1959-1961 in the National Guard. Back home, he worked very hard to provide for his family. He made a living working the land as a farmer and was also a sought-after bulldozer operator. When he wasn’t working, he was spending time with his beloved family, who have lost a patriarch and a champion. He was a lifetime member of the Birds Free Methodist Church. A visitation will be held from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 3rd at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 4th at the funeral home with Pastor Burl Shinkle officiating the service. Burial will immediately follow and will be held at the Jones Cemetery, where military services will be conducted by the combined units of the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, American Legion Post #69, and Marine Corps League Det. #546, and the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southeastern Illinois, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
