Mervin Lee Wiseman, 79, of rural Flat Rock, IL, passed away on the evening of December 21, 2023, at Robinson Rehab and Nursing in Robinson, IL.
He was born on June 15, 1944, to Oran Herman and Nancy Irene Wiseman. He was the oldest of five children. He helped run his family farm during his childhood. Mervin was a member of Oak Ridge Church (rural Flat Rock, IL) as well as the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132. Mervin attended Flat Rock Grade School and later attended Robinson High School. He served his country by serving in the United States Army. On January 16, 1970, Mervin married Joetta Williams. Mervin worked for the Briggs Pottery, Robinson, IL, for 34 years, spending most of that time in maintenance. He was an avid collector of tractors and other antique farm equipment.
Mervin is survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Penny & Brian Buttolph (Flat Rock); a son, James Wiseman (Robinson); a grandson, Kenneth Buttolph (Flat Rock); four siblings & their spouses, Paul Wiseman (Flat Rock), Terry & Shirley Wiseman (Robinson), Roger & Barbara Wiseman (Flat Rock), and Joyce & Gale Bennet (Zephyrhills, FL); and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26th, at Good Hope Cemetery (rural Flat Rock), where military rites will be rendered by the U.S. Army. Celebrant Curt Goodwine will officiate the service, during which time family and friends will be given the opportunity to tell their favorite stories of this infamous storyteller. Memorial contributions may be made to the "American Cancer Society," and envelopes will be available at the cemetery. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock is in charge of arrangements.
