Max E. Conrad, 89 of Robinson, IL, formerly of Mason City, IL, died at 5:33 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2008 at Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson. He was born May 2, 1918 in Hutsonville, IL, the son of Ed Conrad and Pearl McCoy Conrad. Max was Postmaster at Hutsonville for several years. He was a funeral director and graduated from Worsham School of Mortuary Science in 1943, He owned a funeral home in Hutsonville, Mason City, San Jose, and Green View and worked for Satorious Funeral Home in Petersburg, IL. After retirement he worked part time for Vancil Funeral Home in Springfield. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII. He trained at Walter Reed Hospital and graduated in the Class of 1944 becoming a certified medic. He was wounded in Germany and received the Purple Heart. He was a member and Commander of the Mason City American Legion Post #496 for 63 years and belonged to the Mason City Masonic Lodge for 57 years. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans.He married Kathleen A. Weger on April 12, 1941 and she preceded him in death on July 5, 2007. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Bertha Jones, Robinson, his brother-in-law, Kelly Weger, Robinson; several nieces and nephews, and 2 cousins. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 20th at 1:00 p.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Visitation will from noon Thursday until service time at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Robinson New Cemetery. Masonic services will be conducted by the Robinson Masonic Lodge #250. Military graveside services will be conducted by the combined units of the Robinson American Legion Post #69, the Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549, the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132, and the Amvets Post #33. Memorials may be made to the Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549 Transportation Fund with envelopes at the funeral home.
