Maurice Albert Wernz

Maurice Albert Wernz, 96, of West Union, Illinois, died at 11:27 a.m. on October 17, 2019, at Marshall Rehabilitation and Nursing in Marshall, IL. He was born on August 12, 1923, in York Township, the son of Leo Wernz & Margaret Wernz, both of whom preceded him in death. On April 17, 1948, he married Juanita Hargis, and she preceded him in death on September 13, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his brother, W. Antone Wernz; and by his daughter, Sharon Lee Gulyas. On September 25, 2004, he married Loretta Jean (Draper) Daugherty, and she survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Ruthie, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Maurice grew up in the West Union area before WWII broke out, at which point, he proudly served his country as a medic in the U.S. Army. Back home, he dedicated his life to tending the fields as a farmer in the West Union area. He will forever be remembered for his determined, yet easy-going nature. Maurice truly was a man who lived his life excellently; he worked hard and made his time on earth fruitful. A man of faith, he attended the West Union First Baptist Church for several years. We have the assurance that today, he is experiencing the fullness of God Almighty, alongside all those who went before him in faith. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 21st at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22nd at the funeral home with Steve Dolson officiating. Burial will be in the Ohio Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the West Union American Legion Post #1130. Memorial contributions may be made to the "West Union First Baptist Church", with envelopes available at the funeral home.
