Mary Ziegler-Reeves, 74, of Robinson, IL, passed away on October 27, 2024, in the comfort of her home. Fittingly, she passed exactly 39 years after her beloved mother's passing—a poignant reminder of the deep family ties that shaped her life.
Born on February 9, 1950, in Lawrenceville, IL, Mary grew up in Bridgeport, where she learned the values of resilience and love within her strong family. She carried those values throughout her life, daily demonstrating a level of strength that was truly inspirational. She raised her four children—Loretta, Cleo, Donald, and Robert—with tireless dedication, taking on the roles of both mother and father when life demanded it. Her children knew that no matter the challenge, their mother's love was an anchor they could always count on. She extended that love to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always welcoming them with open arms and a heart that knew no bounds.
Mary's life was built on the foundation of family. Her sisters—especially Emma, Lucia, and Betty—were her best friends, her confidants, and her constant companions. Whether they were spending a day shopping at the Dollar Tree or enjoying Westerns on a lazy afternoon, Mary cherished those moments of togetherness. Her connection to her sisters was unwavering, and their shared laughter was the soundtrack of her life.
She worked tirelessly throughout her career, taking on various roles from Cotillion Ridge to Jakel Motors to the Arvin Motel, where she spent many years keeping rooms immaculate (which should come as no surprise to anyone who stepped foot in her house!) At the Plaster Barn in Flat Rock, she found joy in painting pottery, a creative outlet that reflected her love for small, beautiful things. Her work wasn't just about earning a living; it was a reflection of her dedication and pride in doing things well, no matter the task.
Mary was also a collector—of trinkets and treasures, of memories, and of moments that brought joy. She adored Elvis Presley and had a penchant for anything red, white, and blue, as well as Western-themed items. Her love for Westerns was well-known, and she found comfort and entertainment in watching classic cowboy tales. Playing cards was another favorite pastime—she was always up for a game of Rummy and loved the chance to share her laughter and competitive spirit with others.
Mary's relationship with her former husband, Don Ziegler, was a unique one. They married and divorced twice and then chose to let go of formalities—a testament to their belief that their love transcended any legal document. Even after they parted ways, Don never took off his wedding band, a simple yet powerful symbol of their enduring bond. Their relationship taught their children the value of loyalty and love that goes beyond the conventional.
Mary's home was more than just a house—it was a sanctuary for her family, a place that held countless memories of laughter, warmth, and togetherness. She took immense pride in keeping her home spotless, and every corner reflected her dedication and care. Mary was a homemaker not just in the traditional sense, but in the way she created an environment where everyone felt welcomed, loved, and at peace. In her passing, her family finds solace in knowing that her extraordinary love will continue to echo in their hearts forever.
She is survived by her four children, Loretta & John Taylor (Maysville, NC), Cleo & Cathy Ziegler (Robinson, IL), Donald Ziegler (Robinson, IL), and Robert & Jamie Ziegler (Robinson, IL); by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; by five sisters, Bessie Beauchamp, Emma Kindred, Lucia Clark, Betty Harbaugh, and Phyllis Rodocker; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Don Ziegler; by her parents, Cleo & Betty (Goff) Clark; by her brothers, John Clark and Clarence Clark; and by her cherished grandson, Dylan Ziegler.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1st, at the Palestine Cemetery, with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements.
