Mary Lou Hargis

March 9, 1929 — July 20, 2018

Mary Lou Hargis, 89, of Robinson, IL died at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2018 at the Magnolia Center in Robinson. She was born on March 9, 1929 in rural Palestine, IL, the daughter of Eldon Garrard and Mary (Reynolds) Garrard, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Edward Hargis on July 8, 1949 and he preceded her in death on February 1, 2016. She is also preceded in death by her one great-granddaughter; by her sisters, Carol Garrard and Mildred McDaniel; by her brothers, Roy Garrard and Donald Garrard. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Nadine Price (East Alton, IL) and Janice Lea & Brian Woodard (Palestine, IL); by her five granddaughters & their spouses, Nikki & Jeff Craig (Palestine, IL), Lori Grace (Cadot, WI), Joy & Travis Miller (Robinson, IL), Deena & Brett Hagen (Wentzville, MO) Shara Price (East Alton, IL); by her step-grandson, Nicholas Woodard; sixteen great-grandchildren; by her siblings, Nina Drummond (Robinson, IL), Marilyn Manhart (Trimble, IL), Genelle Weger (AZ), Eldonna & Jim Snyder (Palestine, IL), and Randall & Rita Garrard (Palestine, IL); by her brother-in-law & sister-in-law, David & Linda Hargis (Robinson, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Mary Lou grew up in Palestine and was a graduate of Palestine High School. She worked for a number of local businesses, from L.S. Heath to the Village of Palestine to Bertram’s Pharmacy, but her heart was always her home. She loved to spend time there, especially tending to her flowers. She also enjoyed sewing and crocheting and made countless pieces earlier in life. Though she found enjoyment in her home life, it was always the loved ones inside that were the most important. Nothing brought her more joy than simply spending time with her family, who have lost a treasure in Mary Lou Hargis. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 26th at the Palestine Cemetery with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating the service. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, with envelopes available at the cemetery. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of arrangements.
