Mary Evelyn Benson, 80, of rural Palestine, IL, died at 2:50 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at her residence. She was born March 13, 1929 in Honey Creek Township, Crawford County, Illinois the daughter of Charles York and Madge Catt York. She was a homemaker and a member of the Robinwood Assembly of God Church, Robinson. Mary married Glen W. Benson on April 16, 1949 and he preceded her in death on August 10, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Charles Jr, Eugene and Carl York; and 3 sisters, Ruth Short, Maxine Lawhead and Judy York.Mary is survived by 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Boden, Hutsonville, Sharon and Scott Campbell, Sleepy Hollow, IL, both of whom cared for their mother in her final days, and Sheila and Jerrol Mikeworth, Hutsonville, 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Renea Benson, Robinson, Dennis and Carla Benson Farmersburg, IN; 15 grandchildren and their spouses, Kiley Childress, Bakersfield, CA, Kody and Brandi Boden, Bakersfield, CA, Kimberly and Charlie Sandiford, Indianapolis, IN, Matthew and Amy Campbell, Aurora, Brendon Campbell, Sleepy Hollow, Chase and Jenny Campbell, White Sands Missile Range, NM, Joshua and Tonya Mikeworth, Tolono, Abraham and Jayme Mikeworth, Robinson, Samuel Mikeworth, Charleston, Graham and Kelly Benson, Lafayette, IN, Seth and Alicia Benson, Indianapolis, IN, Israel Benson, Calhoun, Benjamin Benson, TN, Autumn Benson, Sullivan, and Andy Benson, Palestine; 20 great grandchildren, Pacey and McKenzie Childress, Elizabeth and Gavyn Boden, Luke and Colin Campbell, Eve Campbell, Christian Campbell, Caleb and Lydia Mikeworth, Jordan Mikeworth, Noah, Christian, Meredith, Jada, and Devlin Benson, Jacob and Carter Benson,Sophia and Sadie Benson; 2 brothers and sister-in-law, Joseph and Bonnie York, Parkersburg, and Paul York, Robinson; 1 sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Steve Nale, Georgetown; 1 brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Max and Marilyn Benson, Princeton, WV; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 27th at 10:30 a.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Palestine. Visitation will be held Friday, February 26th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
