Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Benton, 62, formerly of Palestine, IL, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital in Fairfield, IL. She was born January 8, 1960, in Lawrenceville, IL, the daughter of William A. Benton & Ruth Jane (Cook) Parker, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Roger Benton and Allen Benton.
She is survived by her brothers, Robert Benton and James Benton; by her sister, Tina Blair; and by a host of nieces and nephews.
Betsy grew up in the Flat Rock area and was a 1979 graduate of Robinson High School. Her high school years often found her in the cafeteria, handing out milk to her fellow students, and this was work she truly enjoyed. She also cherished her time working at Lawrence Crawford and valued the relationships she developed there. Back home, she spent quite a bit of time outside. She especially loved her flower garden, which brought both color and a sense of fulfillment to her life. Few things brought a smile to her face quite like pickle and mayonnaise sandwiches. In fact, she liked pickles so much that she was known to drink the pickle juice straight out of the jar!
Her beloved family will remember Betsy as an ornery, happy soul who didn't know a stranger. Simply put, she was a lover of people, especially her nieces and nephews. We are thankful for her life and love, and will cherish her memory for as long as we live!
A private family graveside service will be held at the Eaton Cemetery. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the "American Diabetes Association", with envelopes available at the funeral home.
