Family & friends of Marlyn F. Grieves suffered a tremendous loss when Marlyn, 75 of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2025. She was born on February 15, 1949 in Robinson, Illinois. She was the first born child to the late James Grieves and Fern (Dunlap) Grieves, following her brother James "Jim" Grieves less than a year later making them Irish twins. Growing up together they both enjoyed many past times but most of all going out and dancing to rock, pop, and country music. Marlyn went to Robinson High School and graduated nursing school from Lincoln Trail College in 1974, before moving to Indianapolis to be closer to her grandchildren, and where her only daughter, Jeanna had resided at.
Marlyn had many names throughout her life from Skeeter Bug, to Skeeter, to her favorite one being Nana. Anyone who knew her called her Nana, even if they weren't blood relatives, because she was such a loving and warm presence to be around. She was a member of Emmanuel Church in Greenwood, IN and when she was well she enjoyed going to the gym to workout, going to the pool, grilling out, cooking, playing cards, puzzles, and stopping at yard sales. One of her favorite past times was going to her great grandkids games on the weekends where everyone knew she was their biggest fan! She loved being in her garden, which brought her joy watching the hummingbirds through her window. She also looked forward to vacations with her family after retirement, which she happened to have her first cruise planned for this upcoming March that will now be taken in her memory. Her greatest love and passion was spending time with her family and her chihuahua Adeline Grace. She was the center of her grandchildrens universe.
Marlyn worked as a director of nursing for 33 years where she first started at Bethany Village Nursing Home, followed by Greenwood Health and Living, and later finishing out her career at Meridian Health and Rehab. Many of her coworkers would say that she was a very compassionate, caring, and well respected caretaker. She was always committed to her team as well as making sure her residents were taken care of no matter what time of day or night. She was always happy to answer any questions or help find the solution. Marlyn was a sounding board for many residents and co-workers that turned into family. Marlyn always had a passion for taking care of others, but most of all her grandkids.
Marlyn is survived by daughter, Jeanna Moody; granddaughter, Paige Williams; grandson, John moody; five great grandchildren; Neena, Journie, Quest, CC, Cash; and brother, James "Jim" Grieves.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Gerry Williams; and granddaughter, Jessica Moody.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 from 5:00 pm until the time of service at 7:00 pm at G. H. Herrmann Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 5141 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, IN.
