Marjorie "Marge" Leighty

May 9, 1942 — January 2, 2021

Marjorie "Marge" Leighty, 78, of Hutsonville, IL, died January 2, 2021, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. She was born May 9, 1942, in West Salem, IL, the daughter of Loren Lawrence Wright & Ernestine Irene (Case) Wright, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Richard Owen Wright. She married Leslie "Les" Leighty on November 24, 1966, and he survives. She is also survived by her children, Joseph Leighty (Tampa, FL), Alice Grimm (Tampa, FL), and Michael Leighty (Hutsonville, IL); by her two granddaughters, Sydney Grimm and Kacey Grimm (both of Tampa, FL); as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Marge grew up in the Lancaster, IL area and was a 1960 graduate of Mount Carmel High School. She would further her education at Eastern Illinois University where she earned her bachelor's degree in education in 1964. She began her career at Moweaqua Grade School before landing a job as an elementary school teacher at Hutsonville Grade School in 1969. Though she spent most of the 1970s at home raising her young family, 1979 found her back in the classroom, where she stayed until retiring in 2007. Even after retirement, her love of children and the passion she had for education led her to substitute teach up until this past year. Time at home often found Marge hard at work in the kitchen. Few things brought her more joy than bringing her family together at the dinner table, where they could all enjoy her famous homemade noodles and yeast rolls. She was also well-known for her musical ability. Marge used her God-given talent for His glory, playing the piano while accompanying Les at a number of revivals as well as at their home church, the West Union Christian Church, where they played an active part throughout their 50 years of membership. She was also active in the Hutsonville Community Club (where she formerly served as secretary), as well as numerous teaching organizations. Henry Adams once said that "a teacher affects eternity; she can never tell where her influence stops." We are grateful that Marge Leighty's legacy lives on in the lives of her students and in the hearts of all of those blessed enough to know this beautiful soul. Her selfless, compassionate love was a light that shined bright for all the world to see and pointed to a faith that has now been made sight. Due to the increased public safety measures being enforced by the State of Illinois, funeral services will be private. However, a live stream of her service will be available to the public starting at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8th. This can be viewed on Goodwine Funeral Homes' Facebook page or by going to https://www.goodwinefuneralhomes.com/live-stream/live-stream . Marge will be laid to rest in the Hutsonville Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the "West Union Christian Church". Checks may be mailed to: Goodwine Funeral Homes 303 E Main St. Robinson, IL 62454 The Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union is in charge of arrangements.
