Marilyn Jo "Dodie" Coulter, 87, of Robinson, IL, died on March 10, 2023, at the Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson. She was born on October 12, 1935, at her maternal grandmother's house in Washington, IN, the daughter of Edgar William & Ruth (Sullivan) Brocksmith. She grew up about a mile from Freelandville, IN, where she developed what would become a lifelong passion for horses. Upon graduating from Freelandville High School in 1953, she decided to further her education at Lockyear's Business College, where she met Richard "Dick" Coulter. The two were married on May 18, 1957, and spent the first part of their marriage living in Evansville, IN. While Dick worked part-time and attended school, Dodie found employment in the electric meter accounts department of the Southern Indiana Gas and Electric Company (SIGECO). Before long, they moved to Robinson, and though she worked at Gallo's Red and White supermarket for a time, her primary role was that of a homemaker.
Time at home often found Dodie in the kitchen, whipping up mouth-watering specialties like homemade noodles or delicious treats like chocolate chip cookies. She also spent quite a bit of time with a needle and thread in hand, be that embroidering or stitching together shirts, jumpers, and dresses for her children, Debbie and Alan. They will fondly remember their mother's love of flowers. Though this sassy soul could be more than a little strong-willed at times, Dodie left a garden of memories behind that her loved ones will treasure forever.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Richard "Dick" Coulter; her children, Debbie & Mark Gibson and Alan Coulter; by her grandchildren, Cory Lee & Bonnie Coulter, Richelle Dawn Coulter, and Heather Jo & Zach Watson; and by her great-grandchildren, Grady, Max, and Adi. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar William & Ruth Brocksmith, and by her brother, Edgar Herbert Brocksmith.
