Madelyn Ruth (Collins) Storckman, 94, of Robinson, IL, passed away on October 4, 2022, at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, IL. She was born May 26, 1928, in Yale, IL (Jasper County), the daughter of Emory Earl & Luva Allie (Matheny) Collins, both of whom preceded her in death. She married J.O. Storckman on May 27, 1951, and he preceded her in death on March 14, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Wendell Collins; her sister & brother-in-law, Mary Evelyn & Coy Ault; and her son-in-law, Robert Takacs.
She is survived by her two sons & daughters-in-law, Laddie & Connie Storckman (Hutsonville, IL) and Scott & Christine Storckman (Bailey, CO); by her daughter, Julie Takacs (Overland Park, KS); by her three grandchildren, Amy Teska (Hutsonville, IL), Ryan & Sara Storckman (Boise, ID) and Emily & James Day (Overland Park, KS); by her nine great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Madelyn grew up in the Yale area and was a 1946 graduate of Casey High School. She would go on to work in many capacities throughout her life. Her career began as a telephone operator before becoming a first aid nurse and receptionist at the Allen Sanitarium. Most of her working years found her at the Crawford County Supervisor of Assessment office, where she was a staple for 19 years before retiring in 1989. Never one to let dust settle, Madelyn continued working as a bailiff and an election judge and was also a clerk at the Deer Run Golf Course for many years.
Madelyn was, by all accounts, devoted to her community. A lifelong and ardent Republican, she was a member of Crawford County Republican Women and served as an election judge for many years. She was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary Post # 4549, where she had served as Senior Vice. A lover of music, she played the piano for innumerable funerals and community memorial services and also took part in many musicals put on by the Lincoln Trail College Performing Arts Department. Her involvement with local performing arts didn't end there, as she was involved with the LTC choir as well. A longtime member of the Robinson First United Methodist Church, she also lent her voice to the church choir and faithfully served in the bell choir for many years. In fact, it could be said that Madelyn's life was marked by faithfulness. Her commitment to her family, her church, and her community left behind a legacy that will be felt for years to come. We will never forget this beloved firecracker of a woman and look forward to the day when, by the grace of God, we see her again!
