Mac Eugene White, 82 of Palestine, IL, died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at his home after a lingering illness. He was born November 1, 1926 in rural Porterville, IL, the son of Lawrence White and Eva Opal Burcham White. Mac was a graduate of Hutsonville High School, a member of the Class of 1945. He worked as Shift Foreman for Marathon Oil Co. for 36 years, retiring in 1985. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Palestine First United Methodist Church for 53 years, and had been Chairman of the Board of that church. He served on the Palestine Village Board, was a member of the Robinson American Legion Post #69, and was an avid woodworker and camper.He married Virginia Brashear on October 31, 1948 and she survives. He is also survived by 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Karan and Duane Murray, Palestine, Barbara and Herb Hess, Palestine, Rita and Clell Fry, Stoy; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Lori White, Robinson, Ken White, Noblesville, IN, Matt and Glenda White, Boiling Springs, SC; 9 grandchildren, Alison Montgomery, Beth Kincade, Brooke Murray, Wesley Murray, Melissa Fry, Kevin Fry, Megan White, Cody Mullins, and Caitlin White; 5 great-grandchildren, David Kincade, Paige Kincade, Konnar Murray, Madison Montgomery, and Chase Montgomery; his sister, Ella Mae Knoblett, Palestine; 2 sisters-in-law, Joanne White, Palestine and Laverne Goodman, Plain Dealings, LA; his brother-in-law, Herb Boyles, Lawrenceville; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers, Earl Peterson, Leroy White, Foy Lee White, and Lawrence White, Jr.; 2 sisters Lorene Brown and Velma Boyles; and his granddaughter, Kerri Anne Murray.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 9th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Rev. John Brand and Jane Drake are officiating. Burial is in the Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Palestine. Visitation will be held Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and until service time on Sunday. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Palestine or to the Chase Montgomery Cystic Fibrosis Fund, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
