Lyman "Bud" Melton, Sr, 85, of Annapolis, IL, died August 23, 2020, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family. He was born October 22, 1934, in rural Robinson, IL the son of George Lyman Melton & Emma Harris Melton, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his children, Charlotte Jane Rotholtz and Jeff Melton; by three brothers, George, Lloyd, and Elmer Melton; by nine sisters, Susie Melton (in infancy), Rachel Garrard, Corie Littlejohn, Della Waldrop, Dolly Bryant, Ada Newton, Gladys Coatney, Mary Melton, and Elsie Flynn; by his grandson, Joshua Rotholtz; and by his granddaughter, Gracee Bice. He married Barbara (Junkin) on April 29, 1979, and she survives. He is also survived by his sons, Jack & Faye Melton (Morton, IL), Lyman T., Jr. & Jessica Melton (Robinson, IL), Trevor Melton (Annapolis, IL); by his daughters, Emma York (Annapolis, IL) and Crystal & Timothy Gray (Robinson, IL); by his step-children, Cyndi & David Davis (Bicknell, IN), Roy & Shannon Johnson (Oblong, IL), John & Lori Johnson (Robinson, IL), Henry Bice (Hillsboro, IL), and Danny & Turi Bice (Robinson, IL); by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of friends and family. Bud grew up in Crawford County and eventually found employment at Briggs Pottery, where he worked for a number of years. He would go on to join Local #1280 and worked as a laborer until retiring in 1996. Ever his family's workhorse, he farmed and kept a garden above and beyond the normal 9-to-5 as well. Away from work, he could often be found enjoying the outdoors. By all accounts, Bud was an avid fisherman and hunter, and these past times offered him countless hours of peaceful enjoyment, as did time spent on his porch. Later in his life, he started to drive for local Amish families, and he truly appreciated being able to spend windshield time with his friends. Those who had the good fortune to know him will remember Bud as a hard-working, stern soul with an ornery side. He wasn't above tormenting his family, but it always came from a place of love. In fact, it can be said that Bud Melton lived to be an example of tireless dedication to the generations that followed him, and we are thankful that his memory lives on in our hearts. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, IL. PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO COVID-19 MANDATES PASSED BY THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, SOCIAL DISTANCING MEASURES WILL BE IN FORCE, AND IT WILL BE REQUIRED THAT ALL ATTENDEES WEAR FACE COVERINGS.
