Lucille D. Bowen, 92, of Palestine, IL, died at 12:15 a.m. Monday, February 23, 2009 at Crawford Memorial Hospital Long Term Care, Robinson. She was born October 2, 1916 in Palestine, IL, the daughter of Ora Aaron Bailey and Mary Etta Waldrop. Lucille was a bank teller working at the Farmers State Bank for 35 years and at Houpt’s Bakery for 4 years. She joined the Palestine First Christian Church on February 24, 1935.Lucille married George E. Bowen May 18, 1957 and he preceded her in death December 20, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her step-daughter, Marilyn Louise Hogg, her step-granddaughter, Julie Bowen; 5 brothers, Parmer, Elmer, Norris, and Noble and Willard Bailey in infancy; 2 sisters, Stella Carver and Daisey DeVore; and her nephew, Keith Bailey.Lucille is survived by her step-son and his wife, Robert and Beulah Bowen, Palestine; 2 step grandchildren, Francine Scott, Rockton, and Stacie Hunley, Olney; 3 step great grandchildren, Megan, Morgan, Tiffany; several nieces and nephews, and special niece and caregiver, Doraine and her husband Carlos Bandy, Robinson.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Palestine with Rev. Jerry McDaniel officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25th at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.
