Loyal Dee Boyd, 97, of Robinson, IL, died at 4:40 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at the Magnolia Center in Robinson. He was born on October 15, 1921 in Robinson the son of John V. Boyd and Myrl L. (Walters) Boyd, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Audrey N. Bourne on November 24, 1943 in Noble, Illinois and she preceded him in death on September 12, 2013. He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Dale (Terri) Boyd of Chatham, Illinois and Don (Rosebud) Boyd of Robinson; by five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; by his brothers, Harold Boyd and Ward Boyd of Robinson; as well as four nephews. Loyal grew up in Robinson during most of his school years but with his father’s transfer to Noble, he became a student at Noble High school where he met the love of his life, Audrey. After graduation from high school he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served in Patton’s 3rd Army in the European Theater during WWII with the 93rd Signal Battalion for the duration of the War. After discharge, Loyal and Audrey returned to Robinson where he first engaged in farming with his brother Harold but soon purchased a farm where he and Audrey raised their two sons. He was employed with the Soil Conservation Service in the Robinson Office except for the period of time from 1957-1960 when he was transferred to the Shelbyville, Illinois office but upon his return to Robinson in 1960 he remained working there until his retirement. He loved his job with the SCS where he could assist his fellow farmers in making their farm’s more profitable by updated conservation methods. He was a longtime member of the Robinson American Legion Post #69 and the Kirk Chapel Methodist Church, where he attended for most of his life and served in many capacities, especially as song leader where his wonderful voice led the congregation in song and praise. He was a faithful Christian who enjoyed song and spirit with others around him. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with a funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 8th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Rev. Brandon Boyd and Pastor Jim Conlin will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Kirk Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kirk Chapel Methodist Church, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
