Lowell T. Rice, 73 of Robinson, IL, died of an apparent heart attack at 9:50 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2008 in Weslaco, Texas. He was born on October 8, 1934 in Indianapolis, IN, the son of Everett and Millie Sholders Rice. He retired from Marathon Oil Company on January 1, 1995 after 26 years of service in the Maintenance Department. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict; was a member of the Robinson American Legion Post #69; the Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549; the Robinson Elks Lodge #1188; and had been a member of the Robinson 1st Christian Church Disciples of Christ. He also liked to play billiards; to camp, fish, and do woodworking.Lowell married Judy Baker September 12, 1958 and she survives. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Larry Hughes, Alma, MI; his two sons Craig Rice, Terre Haute, IN and Tobey Rice, Robinson;a granddaughter and her husband, Michelle and Tyler Davis, Robinson, who are expecting Lowell’s first great granddaughter in March; his grandson, Tom Rice, Vincennes, IN; his sister, Marian Murley, Indianapolis, IN; 2 brothers, Paul and Max Rice, both of Oblong; and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2008 at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson, IL. with Rev. Tom Akers officiating. Visitation will be from 4 - 7:30 p.m. Thursday preceding the services. There will be cremation with a private family graveside service held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Oblong Park and Lake Committee with envelopes available at the funeral home.
