Lorri Weir, 61, of Annapolis, IL, passed away on November 29, 2022, at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL. She was born on October 7, 1961, in Sandwich, IL, the daughter of Milton D. Weir & Patricia (Daugherty) Ogle, both of whom survive. She is also survived by her daughters & sons-in-law, Cassondra & Joe Conley and Anna & Tony Kamps; by her grandchildren, Emilee Kamps, Alexis Staffey, Gabriel Staffey, Leonidas Palmer, and Tate Conley; and by her former husband and best friend, Gary Upton. She was preceded in death by her sister, Ruby Weir, as well as many beloved aunts and uncles.
Lorri grew up in the Sandwich, Old York, and Annapolis, IL areas and was a graduate of Hutsonville High School. Soon after, she found work at TRW in Marshall before moving to Kentucky, where she was employed at a shirt factory and labored in tomato and tobacco fields. Eventually, she made her way back to Illinois, where she worked at Essex before enrolling at Lincoln Trail College, where she earned two associate degrees - one in science and the other in arts, all while working in the school library. She eventually got on at Hershey before rounding out her career at Crawford Memorial Hospital, where she worked in housekeeping in the long-term care wing. She truly valued talking with and loving on the residents there, which speaks to her selfless, others-centered nature. A person could never question Lorri's love for them; she always made it clearly evident.
Though she was employed in various capacities, her heart was undoubtedly in her home. She found great fulfillment in raising her two daughters and tending to their needs. Specifically, she loved to feed her loved ones. It could be said that filling others filled her up! She could also fill a room with a loud and beautiful sound. The owner of a powerful and exceptional voice, she used it (as well as her talents on the piano and organ) to glorify God at the West Union Church of the Nazarene, where she was a longtime member. She was also a member of a couple of women's softball teams, with whom she typically played outfield.
Time at home often found her outside, working in her garden. She found a well-earned sense of satisfaction tending to the various trees, flowers, and vegetables that found a home in her yard. Many animals found a home with Lorri as well, and though she enjoyed the company of all kinds of critters, she was especially fond of cats, who enjoyed several well-prepared meals thanks to the gracious heart of Lorri Weir.
There is so much we will miss about this dear soul: her ever-thankful heart, her wonderful sense of humor, that one-of-a-kind laugh of hers, her unparalleled capacity for compassion, the list can go on. But more than anything, we're going to miss the love we shared. Her love will live on in the lives of her family and friends, who hold fast to the assurance that, by the grace of God, we'll see Lorri again.
It was Lorri's wish to be cremated without public services. The Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union is in charge of these arrangements.
