Loren E. Mitchell, 88, of Robinson, IL, died at 10:53 p.m. Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson. He was born on January 12, 1922 in Robinson, IL, the son of Frances and Anna Goff Mitchell. Loren was a disabled veteran who served under General Patton throughout Europe with the 390th Anti-Aircraft Battalion. Upon his return, he became a member of the Robinson VFW # 4549 and the Robinson American Legion Post # 69. Loren was a chief operator at the Marathon Oil Refinery, retiring after 36 years of service. He was a proud member of the Highland Church of Christ, where he served as elder and deacon. In 1946, he was raised as a master mason in the Hardinville Masonic Lodge and became a member of the Robinson Masonic Lodge #250. He was also a member of the Danville Scottish Rite; the Crawford County Shrine, where he was a member of the Krazy Klown Unit; the Ainad Shrine of East St. Louis; the Robinson Elks Lodge #1188; and was a member and was on the board of directors for the Eastern IL Food Bank.He married Ruth Mills on June 22, 1946, and she preceded him in death on June 3, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Milton and Max Mitchell; his sister, Neva Sisil and her husband Chuck Sisil; and his sister-in-law, Pat Mitchell.Loren is survived by his daughter, Ruthie Bousley, Robinson; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert & Anna Mitchell, Cape Coral, FL and Gary Mitchell & Sue Martinez, Robinson; 13 grandchildren and their spouses, Scott & Kristin Cooper, Todd & Lindsey Cooper, Aaron and Heather Bousley, Andy & Sherry Bousley, Debbie & Tyler Brant, Bobbie Mitchell & Jennifer Goff, Rickie & Melayne Mitchell, Kristina Daujotaite, Angelina & Andrew Goryushaina, Anastasia Mitchell, Daren Mitchell & Lacy York, Sean & Jessica Mitchell, and Brent Mitchell; 23 great-grandchildren; his brother, Pete Mitchell, Robinson; as well as several nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday preceding the funeral service. The funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, with Mont and Mark Mitchell presiding. Following the funeral service, a Masonic service will be presented by the Robinson Masonic Lodge # 250. A private family graveside service will follow at the Palestine Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Relay for Life of Crawford County, the Crawford County Shrine, or the Oblong Children€™s Home, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
