Lola M. Corder, 94, of Palestine, IL, died Saturday, February 29, 2020, at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL. She was born February 20, 1926, in Palestine, the daughter of Vernon & Thelma (Baker) Martin, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Geneva May Nidey; by her brother, David Martin; and by her son-in-law, John Burner. She is survived by her children, Victor Corder (Chicago, IL), Shirley Burner (Robinson, IL), David W. & Kathy Corder (Altamont, IL), Mary & Tim Hulsey (Boca Raton, FL), and Denise Calvert (Palestine, IL); by her grandchildren & their spouses, J. Scott & Kirsten Burner, Tamara & B.J. Fralicker, Erik & Misty Turner, Bradley & Jill Corder, Mandi & Kevin Banks, Greg Corder, and Sam Calvert; by her great-grandchildren, Nick Halterman, Owen Corder, Ellie Corder, Kayliana Corder, Kiara Fralicker, Sophia Burner, and Isabella Turner; by her great-great-grandchild, Piper Wren Halterman; as well as several nieces and nephews. Lola grew up in the Palestine area and was a 1943 graduate of Palestine High School. From an early age, it became apparent that her life would be marked by hard work, dedication, and compassion. Life as a young mother found Lola caring for her house and all those who called it "home". She would eventually find employment as a housekeeper for John Heath, a job she enjoyed for many years. No matter what she was doing, you could be sure that it was done to provide for and build up her family. She placed a high value on education and tried to put as many books in front of her children and grandchildren as she could. She was a constant source of support to her family and encouraged them to pursue any and every interest and passion that brought life to their living. To Lola, few things brought her more peace and fulfillment than planting flowers in her garden. May her love of gardening remind us that the most beautiful things in this life only last a little while, but they bring color and joy to our living while they do. Though her life appears to have run its course, we have the assurance than she's entered a new and sunny season that, through the love of Christ, will never end. A time of visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3rd at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating. Burial will be in the Palestine Cemetery. In honor of the wonderful care she received there, memorial contributions may be made to "Ridgeview Care Center", with envelopes available at the funeral home.
