Lois Powden

August 8, 1939 — December 29, 2021

Lois Powden, 82, of Robinson, IL, died Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Cotillion Ridge in Robinson. She was born August 8, 1939, in Visalia, CA, the daughter of Samuel G. & Virginia Pauline (Dalrymple) Spencer, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Wilbur R. "Wib" Powden on November 17, 1966, and he preceded her in death on February 24, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her brother, David Spencer. She is survived by her brother, Charles Spencer (Visalia, CA); by her nieces & nephews, Margie & Jerry Waggoner (Robinson, IL), Shirley Knight, Becky & Harry Drake (Farmersburg, IN), Jenny & Greg Pfau (Indianapolis, IN), Steve & Nancy Knight (Minnesota), Bill & Jane Knight (Texas), Bobby & Reiko Knight (Maryland, VA), Mary Lynn & James Cowan (Lake Forest, CA), Richard Stewart (Robinson, IL), Jim & Lynne Stewart (PA), Jon & Dacia Stewart (Webster Groves, MO), Sandy & George Wolfe (Terre Haute, IN), Linda & Bob Jared (Tarpon Springs, FL), and Norma & Barry Adams (Union City, TN). Lois grew up in the Visalia, CA area, where she would graduate high school. She eventually furthered her education at Lincoln Trail College, where she earned an associate's degree in business. This degree would serve her well through the many years she and Wib ran the Rembrandt Studio in Robinson. While Wib was behind the camera, Lois would often be working on a sewing project. A seamstress of over 65 years, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that this dear soul sewed for half of Crawford County! Even at the nursing home, she had a sewing kit on her, just in case! Time at home often found Lois in her garden, and she found great fulfillment in tending to her flowers. She also canned pints and pints of Wib's produce over the years. Though she always kept busy, she did occasionally find time for recreation and was known to play a round of golf from time to time. In the twilight years of her life, she and her niece Margie would treat themselves by going to Vincennes Beauty College once a month, where they would get facials before splitting a burrito at Chavas Mexican Grill. Lois will be remembered not only for the good work she did throughout her life but also for the moxie and charisma that characterized her 82 years. Though she is gone, we find peace knowing that she will never be gone from our hearts. It was Lois' wish that a private burial be held in the New Hebron Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the "Crawford County Forest Preserve Foundation", with envelopes available at the funeral home. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements.
