Lois M. Pifer, 86, of rural Palestine, IL, died at 12:36 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Crawford Memorial Hospital, Long Term Care Unit, Robinson, IL. She was born on December 14, 1921 in Robinson, the daughter of William A. Wesner and Esther Everingham Wesner. She was a secretaryat the Law Offices of Wesner & Wesner prior to her marriage. She was co-owner of Pifer Strawberry Patch from 1955 until the early 1980’s and was a pioneer in the 'Pick-Your-Own' berries. She was a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church and she was a Sunday school teacher and an Elder in the Palestine First Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Current Topics Club and Bridge Club of Palestine.She married James E. Pifer onSeptember 17, 1944,and he preceded her in death on February 22, 1989. She was also preceded by her parents and four brothers, Charles, Harold, Ray and Lawrence Wesner.She is survived by five children and their spouses, Sue and John Trimble, Robinson, Richard and Carol Pifer, Odem, Texas, Janice and Dave Koprivetz, Yorba Linda, California, Stephen and Karen Pifer, rural Palestine, Douglas and Melinda Pifer, rural Palestine; sixteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 14th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine with Rev. Paul Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Palestine. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 13th. Memorials may be made to the Palestine First Presbyterian Church,Oak Grove Cemetery Association, or to the Shriners’ Hospital for Crippled Children. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
