Lois Lepsi

December 6, 1946 — April 18, 2024

Lois Marie Lepsi, 77, of Shelbyville, IL, formerly of Robinson, IL, passed away on April 18, 2024, at Good Shepherd Hospital in Shelbyville. Born on December 6, 1946, in Berwyn, IL, she grew up in Downers Grove, IL, surrounded by the love and camaraderie of her three sisters and many cousins. Soon after graduating from the last class of Downers Grove High School in 1964, she embraced the joys of motherhood and family life, raising three beloved children - Joe, Sandra, and Maribeth.

In 1977, she moved to Robinson, serving the community as the friendly neighborhood meter maid and school crossing guard supervisor. Her time at the Robinson Police Department was also marked by her diligent handling of administrative tasks, showcasing her commitment to public service. After leaving Robinson in 1986, Lois returned to Downers Grove, where she brought her can-do spirit to various businesses, eventually becoming an assistant manager at Ace Hardware, a role she embraced at three different locations until her retirement in 2011.

Lois's interests painted the picture of a woman who treasured the simple joys of life. An avid reader, she was particularly fond of cozy mystery novels that featured her beloved cats and dogs. Her bookshelves were also filled with an impressive collection of recipe books - though she was more collector than chef! Her interests were as eclectic as her personality; she cherished the serenity of state parks and the simple pleasure of a countryside drive. Always on the move, Lois embraced change with the ease of a leaf in the wind. For example, in 2013, she made the impromptu decision to move to Shelbyville with her boyfriend of over three decades, Gary Campbell. Her independence was her guiding star; she lived life on her own terms, always at the helm, steering her course with confidence and a radiant smile.

Lois was the embodiment of friendliness, never hesitating to strike up a conversation or lend an ear. She had a gift for trust, always seeing the good in people. Her outgoing nature shone brightly until her later years, which she faced with the same courage and humor that characterized her entire life. With every chuckle shared, every book read, every cat cuddled, and every ride taken, Lois's spirit continues to dance around us, reminding us to live joyously, befriend eagerly, and love boundlessly. As we honor this phenomenal woman, let us carry forward the radiant light she has bestowed upon us, for the echo of her laughter will resound for generations to come.

She is survived by her children, Joseph & Diane Lepsi, Sandra & Anthony Pawlisz, and Maribeth & Brian Dunlap; by her grandchildren, Sophia & husband Lester Dickinson, Thomas Pawlisz, Andrew Pawlisz, Elizabeth Pawlisz, Samuel Pawlisz, and Benjamin Pawlisz; by her sisters, Barbara Curle and Catherine & husband John Pokropinski; by her brother-in-law, Randy Pfiester; by several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and by her boyfriend of 34 years, Gary Campbell. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maxey E. ''Gene'' & Marie A. (Sirovatka) Smith; by her sister, Jeanette Pfiester; and by her brother-in-law, Phil Curle.

It was her wish to be cremated, and the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of these arrangements. There will be no public service.
