Lisa Marie Skidmore, 59, of Trimble, IL, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, May 12, 2024, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born on November 9, 1964, in Valdosta, GA, Lisa's early years took her to many places, but her family eventually laid down roots in Trimble, IL. She graduated from Robinson High School in 1983, but not before leaving a lasting impression with her unique spirit and zest for life. After all, she was a hippy at heart and a true original, always marching to the beat of her own drum.
Lisa's interests and hobbies were as eclectic and vibrant as her personality. Her green thumb was evident in her beautiful flower garden, and she was an exceptional forager with a profound knowledge of plants' medicinal properties. Lisa's adventurous spirit shone through in her love for horseback riding, a passion she had pursued since 1991. She was also known as something of a snake wrangler/whisperer, fearlessly catching them with an ease that left others in awe. Her love for animals was profound, and she treated all creatures with compassion, though turtles, in particular, held a special place in her heart.
While she always appreciated the company of animals, adventure was another constant companion in Lisa's life. She was always eager to experience new things and embrace the unknown with open arms. She lived in the moment, and time after time, what she found there was joy. Her family shared in her happiness by way of Lisa's dry sense of humor and penchant for ornery playfulness (two words: fart spray.)
Her creative spirit shone through in her arts and crafts. Lisa's talents were boundless: crafting jewelry, horse tack, and Native American-inspired items such as dreamcatchers and flute cases. Over the years, she had her hand in everything from sewing to making rugs, plant holders, lampshades, and countless other handcrafted treasures. Her artistic ability even extended to drawing, capturing the essence of her subjects with a few strokes of her pencil.
It proves difficult to capture Lisa Skidmore's essence in a handful of words. Her legacy is multifaceted but full of joy, creativity, and an unyielding zest for life. Her memory will resound in our hearts, continuing to inspire and guide us, just as the stars beautifully light up the night sky.
She is survived by her mother, Marilyn (Garrard) Manhart, who was her rock and confidante throughout her life. Lisa also leaves behind her sons & daughters-in-law, Steven & Tiffany Tuttle and Curtis & Bailie Tuttle; her daughter, Aspen Skidmore; her cherished grandchildren, Rylan, Kenley, Adylin, and Ayden; her brother & sister-in-law, Jimmy & Sherry Skidmore; as well as her step-siblings, Larry Manhart, Beverly Allison, Sheila Oliver, Vince Manhart, William Manhart, and Mark Manhart, all of whom will miss her deeply. Her life was enriched by the presence of several nieces and nephews and by her close friend, Steve Hightshoe. Lisa was preceded in death by her father, James R. Skidmore, her step-father, Delain Manhart, and her sister, Tina Weger.
