Linda L. York, 81, of Marshall, IL, died at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL. She was born November 21, 1937 in Robinson, IL, the daughter of Amer Newlin & Thelma (Hale) Newlin; both of whom preceded her in death. She married Carl York on October 16, 1955 and he preceded her in death on December 1, 2003. She is also preceded in death by her son, Tim York, and by her brother, Jerry Newlin. She is survived by her children & spouses, Tony & Nafesa York (San Francisco, CA), Tanya & Lee Mullins (Robinson, IL), Tom & Traci York (Peoria, AZ), and Troy Douglas & Sharon York (Cresaptown, MD); by 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; by her sister, Reba Reynolds (Marshall, IL); by her sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law, Linda & Steve Nale (Georgetown, IL) and Bonnie York (Parkersburg, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Linda grew up in the Robinson area and was a 1955 graduate of Robinson High School. As a young woman, she waitressed at the Tick-Tock Café (among other jobs) before driving the school bus for CUSD #2. She and Carl moved to Tucson, AZ, where she continued driving the school bus for a couple years before getting on as a driver with Sun Tran, the city’s bus service. Outside of work, Linda rarely let dust settle. Tuesday nights would often find her bowling, a pastime she was particularly fond of. She also loved sewing quilts and was even a member of the National Road Quilter’s Guild in Marshall for a number of years. She was also a member of the Clarksville Home Extension. Family meant so much to Linda, and she enjoyed traveling for the sake of visiting with those she loved. Her grandchildren in particular were the light of her life and they brought her nothing but joy throughout her golden years. Linda York will be remembered as the strong and fearless matriarch of her family. The love she gave to them will live on in their hearts forever. A faithful Christian, she stayed active as a pianist and singer for a number of churches through the years. Since moving to the Marshall area, she often attended the Mount Olive Baptist Church. A time of visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 13th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with Dr. Ron York officiating the service. Memorials may be made to “Shriner’s Hospitals for Children”, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
