Leonard Weck, 86, of rural Robinson, IL, passed away on January 19, 2023, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born on May 12, 1936, in rural Annapolis, IL, the son of Rex Weck & Effie Fern (Galey) Weck. He grew up in the rural Annapolis area, where he daily lent a hand on the family farm, engraining in him a robust work ethic that would serve Leonard well for the rest of his life. A 1954 graduate of Hutsonville High School, he would work part-time at the old Kroger store in Robinson for a few years before dedicating the rest of his 86 years to farming. It should come as no surprise to those who knew the man that he took his work very seriously, living by the premise that any job worth doing is worth doing well. His commitment to excellence was evident out in the field and at home. In fact, his yard was so well-maintained that it could have easily been confused for a golf course!
Though he always kept his nose to the grindstone, Leonard also knew how to blow off steam now and again. For years, he was an avid quail hunter, a pastime that transitioned into deer hunting in the 1990s. An excellent shot, he won many awards shooting skeet and sporting clays. Leonard was also a longtime basketball fan and followed the University of Illinois team for years. Eventually, his son & daughter-in-law introduced him to the thrill of NASCAR racing, and together, they made many trips to the Brickyard to root for Jimmie Johnson. Back home, he made treasures and trinkets for his family in his woodshop. From furniture to lawn ornaments, whatever it was he crafted, one could rest assured knowing that it was made to the highest standard of quality. And that's just who Leonard Weck was: a man of superlative and indisputable quality who gave us the very best he had.
He married Carolyn S. Davis on September 6, 1957, and she preceded him in death on February 7, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Donald Weck; and his sister, Earlene Colcord.
He is survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Chris & Ruth Weck; his two grandsons, Tony Weck & his husband, Richard Marlatt and Lucus Weck; his sister & brother-in-law, Linda Sue & Pete Laughead; his girlfriend, Sharon Cowden; as well as several nieces and nephews.
