Leon Mikeworth, 89, of Robinson, IL, died on Sunday, August 11, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born June 7, 1930, in Owensboro, KY to Luther Mikeworth & Mary (Rodgers) Mikeworth-McClure, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Richard (in infancy) and Robert Mikeworth. He married Naomi Garrard on March 10, 1951, and she survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Kay & Steve Miller (Robinson, IL); by his grandchildren, Josh & Danielle Adams (Robinson, IL), Jason & Tabitha Adams (Flat Rock, IL), Justin & Rachel Adams (Sumner, IL); by five great-grandchildren, Trenton Adams, Makaela Adams, Isaiah Adams, Silas Adams and Ava Adams; by his sisters, Nadine & Clyde Weaver (Cadiz, KY) and Sarah Williams (Robinson, IL); by his sister-in-law, Eileen Mikeworth (Robinson, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Leon grew up in the Robinson area and was a 1949 graduate of Robinson High School. He worked as a truck driver for L.S. Heath and Sons before proudly serving his country as a combat soldier in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. By the time he was discharged into the Reserves in June of 1953, he had seen action for 13 months and had earned the rank of Sergeant First Class, his last assignment being a driver for his commanding officers. Back home, he went to work for Marathon Oil, where he retired as a Lab Technician in 1986 after 33 years of service. Chances were, when he wasn't busy at work, he could be found tinkering around the house and over the course of his life, cut and split a countless amount of firewood. He was also quite the golfer, and times spent on the course with his Uncle Glen were some of the most enjoyable of his life. More than anything, however, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. They, along with anyone who knew him will remember a fun and friendly soul who never met a stranger in his life. He lived a full life, full of love and humor. He made his life count, and will be remembered for the dedication he put into anything and everything he did. Leon was a longtime member of the Highland Church of Christ. We who also place our trust in Christ have the assurance that on Sunday, he was met with the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." A time of visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 AM on Monday, August 19, 2019, at Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, IL. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 AM with Pastor Phil Young officiating. Burial will be in the Pearl Chapel Cemetery, New Hebron, where military services will be conducted by the combined units of the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, the Robinson American Legion Post #69, and the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132. Memorial contributions may be made to New Hebron Christian School, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
