Leon D. Neer

Leon D. Neer, 74 of rural Flat Rock, IL, died at 6:20 p.m. (E.S.T.) Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Vincennes, IN. He was born December 21, 1935 in Russellville, IL, the son of William Neer and Inez Wolfe Neer. Leon served in the U. S. Navy from 1956 to 1960. He was a laborer and member of the Labor Local #1280, worked in the oilfield, and was a member of the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132.Leon married Sharon Burns on October 14, 1960 and she survives. He is also survived by 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Marcia and John McCreary, Flat Rock, Tonia and Mark Manhart, West York, Sonia and Doug Bonnell, Flat Rock; 4 grandchildren, Tyler Vaughn and his wife, Stephanie, Flat Rock, Jordan Vaughn, Flat Rock, Daniel Manhart, West York, Amy Manhart, West York; 1 great grandson, Ryder Vaughn, Flat Rock; his step brother, Junior Schafer, Vanita, OK, and his step sister and her husband, Rita Ann and Wilbur Boberg, Freelandville, IN. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Flat Rock with Scott Bowen officiating. Burial will be in the Jones Cemetery, rural Flat Rock. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 5th at the funeral home.
