Leola Mae (Gurley) Guyer, 88, of West York, IL died at 1:05 p.m. on Saturday, Oct 15, 2011 at the Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson.She was born August 28, 1923 in Crawford County, the daughter of Emery Charles and Janie Louisa Tuttle Gurley. At the young age of 13, she became caretaker of her father, due to her mother€™s death.Leola married the love of her life, Leo Guyer, Jr. on December 10, 1944. They were inseparable for their 39 years until Leo€™s death on September 26, 1973. Her family was her life. She was a devoted farmwife and homemaker, making all who gathered at their home happy with her wonderful cooking and baking. She was active in her church and community, being involved with 4-H, first as a member, then as a leader. She and Leo built and opened Hickory Holler Campground on their farm in 1969. This facility has continued to grow and expand and now is the home of Crossties Ministries. Leola always supported Leo€™s love of singing bass in Gospel music, which led to the Guyer Family Gospel Quartet€™s 15 years of traveling and also hosting the Barn Sings, which continues to this day.She is survived by her four children, Charles Delane & Elle Guyer of West York, Yvonne Ann & Doug Newlin of Hutsonville, Joan Alyce & Glenn Briggs of Robinson, and Tony Marlin & Janna Guyer of West York. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, as well as 3 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren. She is also leaving a sister-in-law, Lona V. Guyer, several nieces and nephews and many, many friends she made in the campground.Others preceded her in death besides her husband and parents; her brother, Lloyd Gurley and her great grandson, Alex Nading.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 19th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson with Charles Hostetler and Rev. Nita Preston officiating. Burial will be in the Guyer Cemetery, east of Annapolis. Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18th at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Crossties Christian Ministries or World Renewal International Missions, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
