Lena Mae Battershell, 74, of Robinson, IL died at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at her home with family and friends at her bedside. She was born March 7, 1935 in Flat Rock, IL, the daughter of Orman “Babe” Highsmith and Velma Mathews Highsmith. She graduated from Robinson High School with the class of 1952. She also graduated from Lincoln Trail College with an associate degree in education. Lena spent her professional life helping her husband in the management of LeDo Construction. She loved home decorating and later opened Mimi’s Dcor and More in the former LeDo Construction Building. She was active in local civic and political organizations. Lena Mae was grateful for her spiritual upbringing at First Missionary Baptist Church, Flat Rock. She was also an active member at Highland Avenue Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Robinson.She married Franklin W. Battershell in 1952, and he preceded her in death by 2 years. They have 2 children, Brent Battershell of Robinson, IL and Brenda Smith of Landes, IL. Brenda is married to Blake Smith and they have two sons, Jacob and Caleb.Lena Mae is survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Irma Jean Williams, Lawrenceville, Maxine Locke, Hopkinsville, KY, Vera and Jack Blankenbeker, Robinson, Sharon and Fred Nieman, Arcola; her sister-in-law, Helen Burleson, Dixon;her brother-in-law, George Graham, Florissant, MO: and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Carole Battershell, Centennial, CO.She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Randall Highsmith and J. D. Highsmith; and her sister, Barbara Graham; her sister-in-law, Zella Highsmith; and 2 brothers-in-law, Hubert Williams and Robert Locke.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson with Rev. Jerry McDaniel officiating. Burial will be in the Robinson New Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 25th at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Ben Miller Fund or to the Good Samaritan Hospice or with envelopes available at the funeral home.
