Lawrence Loyd Spence

Lawrence Loyd Spence went to be with his Lord on March 14, 2009. He was born on May 17, 1919 at Keyes, Oklahoma, the son of Bennie and Flora M. Spence. He served in the U.S. Army for 4 years and was discharged as Master Sergeant. He spent a number of years farming, then went in the recreational vehicle business for a number of years, then back to farming until the time of his retirement.He was a member and past President of the Crawford County Pork Producers. He was a member and Sunday School Superintendant of the Second Methodist Church in Palestine, and a current member of the First Methodist Church in Palestine. He was also actively involved in the Senior Citizens of Palestine.Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Richard Spence; a grandson, Lawrence Bennett; and a daughter, Janice (Vaughn) Drummond.Survivors include his wife, who he married on August 21, 1971, Maxine (McDaniel-Vaughn) Spence; one son Keith (Cathy) Spence of West Salem, IL; his daughter, Barbara (Frank) Norberto of Crawfordsville, FL; his daughter, Kay (B.J.) Marcum of Jonesboro, GA; his daughter, Janice (William) Taylor of Tupelo, MS; his daughter, Charleen (Vaughn) Finch of Evansville, IN; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; his sister, Margaret Rogers of Sedalia, MO; his sister, Dorothy Spence of Versailles, MO; his brother Earl (Margaret) Spence of Pilot Grove, MO; his brother, Wayne Spence (Janie Herigon); and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 17th at 10:30 a.m., at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Palestine. Full military graveside rites will be conducted at the Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday and until service time on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Palestine Senior Citizens Center or to the Palestine Public Library.
