Larry B. Biggs, 78, of Palestine, IL, passed away on February 26, 2021, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born at home on July 25, 1942, the middle child of Burns & Betty (Creswell) Biggs. He grew up in Palestine and was a 1960 graduate of Palestine High School. He would go on to serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1960-1962, having been stationed in Missouri and California. He then entered the Army Reserves and continued to serve in this capacity until 1968. Though he briefly worked at an Army Munitions Plant in Joliet, IL, this would be the only time of his professional career spent outside of the field. Even while he was working for the plant, he moonlighted as a hired hand on a dairy farm in Kankakee, IL, before returning to the family farm. Here, he would spend the rest of his life tending to the soil as a farmer. Anyone who knew Larry could attest to his other-worldly work ethic, which pointed to his passion for all-things agriculture. He was also known locally for his produce, namely, his sweet corn, and kept a large garden for a good portion of the year. However, December and January always found Larry and Sharon in Mexico and Hawaii, respectively, where they made many friends and countless memories. Those left behind to mourn his passing will remember an honest, hard-working man who expected the best of others and gave the best he had. His life and vocation pointed to a deep and rich faith in Jesus Christ. A longtime member and past trustee of the Palestine First Presbyterian Church, we have the assurance that on Friday, he was met with the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant!" He married Sharon Miller on June 3, 1962, and she survives. He is also survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Larry, Jr. & Dawn Biggs; by his grandchildren, Kaycee & David Washburn, Jessica Spinner, Foster Biggs, and Kendra Biggs; by three great-grandchildren; by his sister, Reta Waggoner; by his brother & sister-in-law, James & Zinnia Biggs; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burns & Betty Biggs, and by his daughter, Jada Jo Spinner, in 2019. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 5th at Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Under Phase 4 Mitigations, public attendance is allowed, but only up to 50 attendees at a time. Thusly, social distancing measures will be in place, and it will be required that all visitors wear face coverings while in the building. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Karen Russell officiating. A live stream of his service can be viewed on Goodwine Funeral Homes' Facebook page or by going to https://www.goodwinefuneralhomes.com/live-stream/live-stream . Memorial contributions may be made to the "American Cancer Society" or the "Palestine Academic Foundation", with envelopes available at the funeral home. Larry will be laid to rest in the Palestine Cemetery.
