Lance Leckey

June 13, 1954 — July 1, 2019

Lance Leckey, 65, of Oblong, IL, died at 10:34 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2019 in the comfort of his home. He was born June 13, 1954 in Olney, IL, the son of Larry & Joyce Leckey. He spent the entirety of his life living in Oblong, with the exception of the time he spent serving his country. He was stationed in Fort Hood and also served in Germany for a time, before being discharged in 1973. Back home, he worked in the oil fields before becoming a truck driver. After 17 years on the road, he became the manager of Freedom Oil before retiring in 2008. Away from work, he could often be found riding his Harley. In recent years, he spent countless hours playing on his computer and this was a great source of joy in his life. He only believed in two seasons, St. Louis Cardinals season and Bears season! A man of faith, Lance was a longtime attendee of the Robinwood Assembly of God. He was recently quoted as saying, “You gotta live right to fly right!”, and we have hope that today, he is truly “flying right.” He married Deanne Lowe on October 6, 1984 and she survives. He is also survived by his children & their spouses, Cameron & Tami Barrett, Danielle & Mark Reeder, Michal Leckey, and Mitchell & Lindsey Leckey; by his grandchildren, Jordan Tracy, Dawn Tracy, Nicolai Tracy, Rylie Leckey, Chace Leckey, Isaiah Reeder, Eli Reeder, and Maddy Reeder; by three great-grandchildren; by his mother, Joyce Leckey; by his brothers & sister-in-law, Brad & Darci Leckey and Eric Leckey; by his sisters & brother-in-law Laura & James Ochs and Bonnie & Eldon Cooper; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Larry K. Leckey. A time of visitation will be held from 3:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 6th at the Robinwood Assembly of God, 11157 N Trimble Rd in Robinson. A memorial service will immediately follow and will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at the church, with Pastor Phil Boyd officiating. Memorials may be made to the “NOW Program” or to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (“IFCJ”). Memorial envelopes will be available at the church. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements.
