Lamara Schulz

November 19, 1938 — June 4, 2023

Lamara Schulz, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Palestine, IL, on June 4, 2023. Born on November 19, 1938, in Flat Rock, IL, Lamara lived a life full of learning, laughter, and love. She was an intelligent, selfless, and caring woman who will undoubtedly be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

As the daughter of Roscoe Newman Parker & Madelyn Nina (Allison) Parker, Lamara was born into a large and loving family. Unfortunately, she was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Max Schulz; her step-son, Lester Schulz; her sister, Monzelle; her brothers, Lawrence and Samuel Parker; and her half-siblings, Newman Parker, Ruth Baehne, Alta Carter, and Franklin Parker. She was also preceded in death by her ex-husbands, Richard Beaver and Lester Schulz, Sr. However, Lamara's memory will live on in the hearts of her surviving family members, including her daughter & son-in-law, Leslie & Don Kapica; her sons & daughters-in-law, Buck & Diane Schulz and Lee Rocco & Dixie Schulz; her step-son, Larry Schulz; her step-daughter, Laurrel & Dana Voigt-Mason, as well as several cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lamara's loyal four-legged companion, Snoopy, will also continue to remember her fondly.

Lamara's dedication to her education and ongoing growth is a true testament to her intelligence and resilience. She graduated from Palestine High School in 1956 and initially focused on being a homemaker. However, she later pursued her passion for nursing, earning her LPN, RN, and ultimately acquiring a bachelor's degree. Her hunger for knowledge led her to study at institutions such as Ivy Tech, Indiana University Northwest, Purdue University North Central, and finally, St. Joseph College of Nursing.

For those who knew Lamara, it comes as no surprise that she committed 30 years of her life to the nursing profession. Her selflessness and compassion for others made her an invaluable asset in her career, both to her colleagues at Methodist Hospital in Gary, IN, and to the countless patients she treated over the years.

Outside of her professional life, Lamara was a woman of diverse interests and talents. She had a green thumb and enjoyed spending quiet moments tending to her garden. Her love for history and culture inspired her to embark on numerous antiquing adventures. Occasionally, Lamara would partake in gambling for entertainment and enjoyed the company of others in that setting. A voracious reader, Lamara gained much satisfaction from her membership with the Palestine Book Club.

Her love of literature not only enriched her perspective on life, but also forged priceless friendships with fellow literature enthusiasts. She loved to travel across the United States and abroad.

Of course, Lamara's family was her top priority. She relished every opportunity to gather with her loved ones, often hosting lively events filled with laughter and love. Lamara was also a seasoned card player and could reliably be found enjoying games of bingo and cards with her loved ones.

Those who knew Lamara Schulz will undoubtedly remember the joy and warmth she brought to any gathering. We take heart in knowing that the caring and compassionate care she provided to both patients and loved ones will live on as her lasting legacy, and she will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

It was Lamara's wish to be cremated without public services. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of these arrangements.
