Keturah Reinbold passed away peacefully in Champaign, Illinois, after a brief illness in her home on December 3, 2023. She was born on September 23, 1942, in rural Robinson, Illinois. She was the daughter of Lester & Bouchie (Adams) Reinbold, both of whom preceded her in death. She and her mother stayed with the grandparents, John Quincy and Gussie (Clark) Adams, while Dad was in the army. She is survived by her friend and companion Larry Meister of Champaign, Illinois, who lovingly cared for her in her final years. Keturah leaves behind four brothers and three sisters-in-law. Philip & Linda Reinbold, Mark & Hang Dao Reinbold, John & Betsy Reinbold, and Stephen Reinbold, as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Keturah grew up in rural Crawford County and graduated from Palestine High School in 1960. She was an avid reader and an excellent student. She continued her education with a B.S. degree in Zoology from Eastern Illinois University in 1964, followed by a Master's Degree and Ph.D. in Environmental Biology from the University of Illinois in Urbana. She stayed in Champaign, working at the Illinois Natural History Survey and the U.S. Army Construction Engineering Regional Lab, where she continued her work to protect the natural environment. She worked hard to make herself heard in a primarily male environment. She retired in 2004, and her health problems made her work difficult.
Keturah loved her family. She often talked about the time she spent with her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as her parents and siblings. Keturah returned to Crawford County for a few months before she passed. She loved to travel whenever her work and health allowed. She loved spending time in nature and her sunroom, and she loved her cats. She dealt with dementia in the last few years of her life with remarkable contentment. Now, she is fully whole in the perfect environment of the new heavens and the new earth.
