Kenneth "Pete" Mccammon

October 31, 1925 — October 23, 2018

Kenneth “Pete” McCammon, age 92 of Palestine, IL died at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family following a brief illness. He was born October 31, 1925 in New Lebanon, IN, the son of Jess & Janie McCammon. Pete proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Civilian life found him working as a mechanic. It was a natural fit, as he could fix just about anything he put his hands on. Away from work, he could almost certainly be found fishing on the Wabash, a past time that provided him with countless hours of peace and enjoyment. Pete was also an avid sports fan and followed Illini basketball, Cardinal baseball, and stock car racing with enthusiasm. More than anything, however, he simply enjoyed spending time with his family. A member of the Palestine First Christian Church, Pete McCammon will be remembered as a man of faith; one who did his God-given part and left his legacy in the hearts of all who knew him. Pete married Edna Maxine (Waldrop) McCammon on March 8, 1947, and she preceded him in death on June 8, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents; by his daughter, Janet Knoblett; and by 9 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his two sons & daughters-in-law, Mike & Phyllis McCammon and Doug & Sheila McCammon (all of Palestine). He is also survived by six grandchildren & their spouses; Stacie & Rodney Ogle, BJ McCammon, Lori Ramsey, Andy Knoblett, Lindsay & Rusty Beabout, and Kimberly & Travis Alumbaugh; by several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and by two sisters, Shirley McCammon and Beulah Bowen (both of Palestine). A time of visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 26th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with burial following in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Pastor Tim Watson will officiate the services, and casual dress is welcomed. Memorials may be made to “Lincolnland Hospice”, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
