Keith Leon Tohill

February 25, 1938 — November 20, 2022

Keith Leon Tohill, 84, of rural Flat Rock, IL, passed away on November 20, 2022, at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL. He was born on February 25, 1938, in Montgomery Township, rural Crawford County, IL, the son of Herman Kenneth & Alice M. (Blaker) Tohill, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Rita (Johnson) on June 18, 1993, and she preceded him in death on September 2, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Ella Tohill and by his great-grandsons, Parker Wayne Courtney and Jaythen Wayne Courtney

He is survived by his children, Cindy Houghtaling, Orman "Okie" & Mary Tohill, and Kevin & Kim Tohill; his grandchildren, Kyle & Laura York, Zeb & Rachel York, Zach & Kendra Tohill, Candice & Amos Young, Gage & Jessica Tohill, Darcee & Adam Dunlap, Kendra & Justin Courtney, Cora & Rich Nidey, and Johnny Shook; his 14 great-grandchildren; his brother, Kenneth Tohill; his sister, Vivian & Wendell Reinbold; several nieces and nephews; his best friend, Richard Wesley; and by his buddy and beloved cat, Oreo.

A 1956 graduate of Palestine High School, Keith soon found himself working in the oil fields. A producer since 1958, anyone who knew him could attest to the fact that the oil fields were his life and are now his legacy. He considered most hobbies to be a distraction from his work, though he found great joy in driving to Terre Haute with Richard Wesley. Together, they would peruse through the local junkyard, hunting for treasures and bargains that he could use out in the field. He built such a relationship with the junkyard employees that they regularly set aside items they knew he would be drawn to! Each trip could only be complete with lunch at Grandma Vera's Cafe and a pitstop at the Dairy Queen in Marshall.

Back home, he was a longtime member of the Flat Rock Masonic Lodge #348, and this gun enthusiast was also, (unsurprisingly), a proud member of the NRA. Though Keith Tohill was a simple man, he was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A time of visitation will be held from 3:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 27th, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock.
