Katherine E. Poland

Katherine E. Poland, 93 of Terre Haute, IN, formerly of Robinson, IL, died at 7:38 a.m. June 6, 2009 at Burgin Manor in Olney, IL. She was born May 1, 1916 in Birds, Lawrence County, IL, the daughter of Fred Schoffstall and Molly Davis Schoffstall. She had worked as a clerk in her family grocery, Poland’s Grocery, in Robinson and had also been a clerk in a retail department store. She also was a member of the Terre Haute Memorial Methodist Church. Katherine married John A. Poland on October 18, 1937 and he survives. She was a loving wife and grandmother. She is also survived by her grandson and his wife, John M. and Becky Poland, Sacramento, CA; her granddaughter and her husband, Jamie and Gerald Garcia, Albuquerque, NM; 4 great grandchildren, Stephanie Poland, John Drew Poland, Tiara (Dean) Dominquez, Brittani Garcia; 1 great-great grandchild, Brooklynn Dominquez; her sister, Velma Buss, Olney; and her daughter-in-law, Maureen Poland, who has been a daughter to her, Albuquerque, NM. She was preceded in death by her son John Irwin Poland; her parents; 2 brothers, Gilbert and Cleon Schoffstall; and her sister, Audrey Paddock.Funeral services will be held at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson, IL at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 9th. Mytron Lisby is in charge of services. Burial is in the Robinson New Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday June 8th and until service time on Tuesday.
