Karen Vale Annis, 59, of Robinson, died Tuesday, October 25, 2011, succumbing to complications of neuropathy and kidney failure at Carle Foundation Hospital, Champaign-Urbana. Her loving family attended her bedside in her final days. Karen was born October 22, 1952, and was the daughter of Thomas and Peggy Corrie of Broad Top, Penn. She was the firstborn of five children. Karen graduated from Perry High School in Canton, Ohio, and later attended Olivet Nazarene College in Kankakee, IL, eventually graduating with a bachelor€™s degree in English literature and a minor in drama from Trevecca Nazarene University. She met her husband of 38 years, Donald Annis, in high school and they began dating as college students, later marrying on August 25, 1974. Karen taught English at the University of Tennessee at Martin, and later taught at Harnett Central High School in Angier, N.C. She also worked as a legal secretary in Raleigh, N.C. Karen was passionate about Bible study and Christian fellowships. An active church member, she was an adult Sunday school teacher for 30 years. She possessed a passion for the dramatic and fine arts including reading, writing, singing, sewing, painting and drawing. She also loved learning fine culinary techniques and gourmet cooking. She was preceded in death by her sister, Candy Corrie. She is survived by her husband, Donald Annis; daughter and son-in-law, Jessamyn Jade and Ryan Rubio; parents, Thomas and Peggy Corrie; sister and brother-in-law, Kim and Gregory Oswald; sister, Tammy Corrie; and brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Evelyn Corrie. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28th at Highland Church of Christ in Robinson. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 28th at the church with Rev. Shane Bopp officiating (call 618-544-3517 for further information). Private graveside services for interment will be held for family at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wilmot, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to the Highland Church of Christ in her memory.
