Julia Bradbury

January 20, 1929 — April 20, 2021

Julia Bradbury, 92, of Robinson, IL, died April 20, 2021, at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL. She was born January 20, 1929, in rural Oblong, IL, the daughter of William & Elizabeth (Woods) VanWinkle, both of whom preceded her in death. She married John F. "Jack" Bradbury on May 28, 1947, and he preceded her in death on January 20, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her son, Ronnie Bradbury; her brother, Leroy VanWinkle; and her sisters, Edna Mendenhall and Mayme B. Deatherage. She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Jerry & Becky Bradbury (Robinson, IL); by her grandchildren, Jason & Stacey Bradbury (Summerville, SC), Brian & Jamie Bradbury (Robinson, IL), Stacey & Mark Holt (Oblong, IL), Heather Angle (Flora, IL), and Marty & Dan Bell (Spencer, IN); by her great-grandchildren, Jackson and Josiah Bradbury (Summerville, SC), Kinley and Audrey Bradbury (Robinson, IL), Keithfer Dolson and Keirstin Holt (Oblong, IL), and Dillon and Delainey Bell (Spencer, IN); as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Julia Bradbury epitomized what it meant to be a farmer's wife. A hard-nosed worker through and through, she helped around the farm, worked around the house, and cooked for her family and the various field hands that tended to their land. Her home was always very well-kept, both inside and out, as she was known to spend quite a bit of time mowing the yard. The smell of her vegetable soup often permeated the house, a welcome friend after a hard day's work. Though she was naturally a stoic, resolute woman, it was evident that she loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Though she was known to keep most people at a distance, those closest to her will reflect on her life and think of her legacy of excellence in all things and of the doors that they have opened that could never have been reached in life if it were not for standing on her steady, capable shoulders. Private family services will be held at the Bradbury Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the "Bradbury Cemetery" and may be mailed to: Goodwine Funeral Homes 303 E Main St Robinson, IL 62454 The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements.
