Joseph Alex Ciers

Joseph Alex Ciers, 86 of Flat Rock, IL, died at 11:10 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2009 at Crawford County Convalescent Center in Robinson. He was born August 19, 1922 in East Chicago, IN, the son of John Ciecierski and Julia Marie Zabrosky. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII, was in the U. S. Merchant Marines and worked for Standard Oil Co. He was a member of the Flat Rock Masonic Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star Katherine Chapter, and the Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549.Joseph married Evangeline Bryant on September 16, 1950 and she survives. He is also survived by 5 sons and their spouses, Bryan and Bella Ciers, Whiting, IN, Joel Ciers, Conroe, TX, Bruce Ciers, Crete, IL, Bill Ciers and Ann Hubbard, Highland, IN, and Jamie Ciers, Flat Rock; 4 daughters and husbands, Jeanelle Ciers, Whiting, Barbrie and Steve Kelm, Flat Rock, Julie Hollington, Kelowana, British Columbia Canada, Betty and James Boles, Naples, Italy; 13 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Irene Speski, Hammond, IN; his sister-in-law, Sophie Speski, Calumet City; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Walter Speski; 2 sisters, Joan Gora and Marie Zambo; and his grandson Jason Ciers.Cremation has been chosen and a memorial service will be held by the family at a later date. A memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2009 at the Whiting Baptist Church, 1541 119th St., Whiting, IN with Brother Hall officiating. A luncheon and open house at the church will follow the memorial service until 6:00 p.m. Thursday.
