John Wayne Schulte, 60, passed on a Wednesday. It was July 23 around 2 p.m. No one expected it to happen so quickly, but it did. My name is Hiley, and I am his daughter; and I can honestly say that I have never known a better or more brilliant man.To define Schulte’s accomplishments would be an exercise in futility. I will generalize—he taught some science for 26 and a-half years and was involved with at least 20 environmental organizations, and I like to pride him on the fact that he was the first Environmentalist Biologist around…here or anywhere. He was Green before Green was cool. You all know who you are…struggling through his class (I took it myself—what a tough professor!), but who are you if you did not get his humor and laugh? That is what he taught me…and everyone I think…humor…intelligently oh, and yeah some biology.John W. Schulte was made to be a teacher, but not only at LTC. J. W. taught me what it is to be a decent person; and do things the way they should be done. Loyalty, fairness, love, peace, and happiness were his words of wisdom---even though he hated clichs—those were his favorite words; therefore, mine. I believe that he will be missed by most. I know I’ll miss that guy always and forever.John W. Schulte grew up in Carlyle, IL, with a loving family consisting of his mother, Eva Ann Hempen; daddy, Lloyd W. Schulte; and his sister Bonnie Nehrt, who survives, of Carlyle. He became quite the intellect at Southern Illinois University; and obviously continued such things at Lincoln Trail College in Crawford County, IL. Other things in life include a family: his wife, Frana; daughter, Hiley Anne of Oblong; his son; Benjamin Henry Schulte, Claremont; two grandchildren; 2 nieces; and several great nieces and nephews; wacko amounts of friends (you know who you are Mary Jane, Jerry, Mike, and Rod), one kitty; and five grand-dogs.As per John’s wishes, private graveside services were held at a site on his farm. Memorials may be made to the Southeastern IL Hospice, the Crawford County Humane Society or any environmental group of the donor’s choice. They may be mailed to the Goodwine Funeral Home, 303 E. Main St., Robinson, IL 62454.I hope to continue to narrate for him, and say to infinity for him: RESPECT NATURE.
